Does the Alden name ring a bell?  Make you think of Alden yachts?  Well, that is where we got our name!

When Arthur Martin was designing his first ocean shell, he worked at the John Alden Company of Boston.  Neil Tillotson, then owner of the John Alden Company, encouraged Arthur to begin building his rowing shells.  Mr. Tillotson offered the use of the Alden name and Arthur's first loan.  In 1971, the Alden Ocean Shell was introduced to the public in the Boston area and Arthur went off on his own.  Since then, thousands of men and women have learned to row in an Alden.  We've sold more than ten thousand boats!

The stability and light weight of our boats make them great for learning to row and for sharing with generations of friends and family.  Today's Aldens are all made in Massachusetts under one roof with attention to quality, consistency and detail.

Alden’s been a family company for a long time.  We have a heritage that others envy.  Today, we welcome everyone, regardless of age and education, to try the sport of rowing in an Alden.  Please call us, if you'd like to schedule a lesson in the New England area.
