There is no better way to learn to row than to have the luxury of going someplace that can teach you, feed you and put you up for a few days. We’re partial to two rowing schools, in particular, as we’ve experienced them firsthand. The first one doesn’t put you up but boy! do they offer a great breakfast. The second school listed below does offer full board and room, should you prefer to go that route in the warmer seasons. The Florida Rowing Center located in Wellington, Florida operates a wonderful winter and early spring program where all ages and skill levels are welcome. Their coaches are first-rate accomplished people in their own right who’ve achieved notoriety on their own in the rowing world. Wellington is also the home of the Palm Beach Polo Club and right in the heart of Florida horse country. It’s probably 35 or 40 minutes to the PBI airport and very conveniently located. You may learn more about this school at www.floridarowingcenter.com. Alternatively, in late spring through early fall, the Craftsbury Sculling Camp Programs are offered up in Vermont at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. While this center tends to attract more competitive sweep rowers, there are fine coaches who cater to people looking to learn to row, as well. www.craftsbury.com/sculling Additionally, each of our dealers is qualified to teach you to row. That’s something we require of our dealers, in order to sell our boats. Depending upon where they’re located, you might find yourself in protected salt water or on a pristine lake. If you’re seriously interested in learning to row and acquiring a boat, we recommend that you take a look at our “Find a Dealer” page to see how closely situated you might be to someone in your area. Click on the link above to learn more about your options and who might be able to give you a demo or a full fledged lesson. Remember, too, you’re always welcome to call and share your “Learning to Row” experiences with us. We’ve flipped boats, come up in the cockpit, come up in the rigger and have had various other adventures – some that probably shouldn’t be shared! Above all else, take it easy, wear a hat & sunscreen and try to relax!
